Well it's been a long time. I am a bad blogger. My goal is to become a better blogger. I really want to post things a few times a week if not something every day. Be it an organic subject, recipe, or just a random rant! :) Here is my update!
Since I first started this a year ago, I have gotten chickens and ducks. We have 8 chickens and 2 ducks. We ended up with all hens. However, we have a Drake, and he takes care of the flock if you know what I mean. We are waiting to see if maybe this summer we will leave a few eggs behind and see if we end up with any chucks! :) Having our own chickens has been great. We obvioulsy have more than a 5 person house hold can eat in eggs so we randomly sell them when people ask. usually the comment is "the yolks are so dark." Yup this is a sign of an organic egg! Our chickens and duck are fed organic feed, veggies scraps, fruit scraps, and of course your every day free range find which kinda grosses me out to think about! :)
What is funny is our chickens and goats which we raise for their fiber live together, and if we don't close up the hen house the goats think they can go in and take up residence in there. They are actually just looking for tid bits of food that the chickens left behind from their morning breakfast! Our chickens actually will chase the goats away from the food by pecking at their feet. Our chickens are so used to being held that if you walk up too them they squat down to be picked up. Our goats on the other hand, they are just wild kids! They hold still once you catch them, but like to play cat and mouse with you if the can!
Today's blog as you can see is about, doing what you can to be self sufficient. We don't have room to do much self sufficiently, but we are doing what we can to start out. Having chickens to lay eggs for us is a great thing. It teachs our children responsibility of taking care of animals, bring in food produced at home, and curiosity to see if we will have chucks born if they hatch eggs themselves! :)

My First Blog
This is my first blog attempt. So please bare with me! ;) I plan to blog about raising an organic family. With all the garbage that is pumped into our meat and sprayed on our vegetables being organic is expensive and sometimes hard to do. I hope to find new ways and ideas to blog about and share them with everyone. I have had to find organic ways to live due to health issues my daughter was born with. She is now 11 soon to be 12 and thanks to her, we have changed our way of living drastically. I have 3 children and I can count on both my hands how many times all three of them together have been on antibiotics due to the way we have changed our way of living.
So please stay tuned for many more updates and ways and Ideas I have to share. And please feel free to share your ideas also. I am always open to new ways of living an organic life!
